Ex-Terengganu Anulae Treasurer Fined RM10,000 For Using Fake Documents

KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- The former treasurer of the Terengganu branch of the Peninsular Malaysia Amalgamated National Union Local Authorities Employees Union (Anulae) was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to two charges of using forged documents, five years ago.

Jafri Wahab, 59, made the plea after the two optional charges were read out to him before Judge Mohd Azhar Othman.

The court sentenced the man, who is a former assistant environmental health officer of the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT), to a fine of RM5,000 or three months' jail for each charge.

The father of three was charged with using forged documents, namely a bank account statement belonging to the Terengganu branch of Anulae for the years 2019 to 2020 as genuine on June 28, 2020 at MBKT.

The charges were brought under Section 471 of the Penal Code which is punishable under Section 465 of the same code which carries a maximum prison sentence of two years, or a fine or both.

In addition, he also faces 11 charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code for misappropriating funds from the Terengganu Branch Anulae welfare fund amounting to RM29,200 for the period January to July 2020, for his own use.

However, all the charges were taken into consideration (TIC) by the court under Section 171A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Rabiatul Addawiah Mohd Noorlee, Tengku Nurul Haziqah Tuan Yacob and prosecuting officer Nur Raihan Mohd Yusof while Jafri was represented by lawyer Mohd Asaari Salleh.
