SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Two men pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to two charges of robbery in the Kuala Selangor district recently.
Accused Muhammad Taufiq Haiqal Edi Fazlee, 22, and Muhammad Ezkil Mohamad Nor, 29, made the plea before Judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammad Redza after both charges against them were read out.
According to the first charge, the two were charged with jointly committing a group robbery against a local man involving RM700 in cash at a seafood premises in Pasir Penambang at 5.30 am, August 5.
They were also charged with committing the same offence against a local woman involving RM600 in cash at a retail shop around Tanjong Karang at 6.45 am, the next day.
The offence was charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and caning if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Azamuddin Razak offered bail of RM15,000 to each accused for both cases with the additional condition to report to the nearest police station every month.
Lawyer S Muthuveeran, who represented both accused, applied for lower bail, before the court allowed bail of RM10,000 for the first charge and RM8,000 for the second charge with additional conditions.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Taufiq pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Mohamad Ibrahim Muhammad Ghulam to a charge of stealing a local woman's handbag at a shop in Bukit Rotan at 2.13 pm, July 31, together with Abdul Hanif Abdul Rahim, 27.
The offence was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code read with Section 34 of the same code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and may be fined and for repeat offences may be jailed with a fine or caning.
Selangor Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Nor Hakimi Mohamad Rosedin offered bail of RM8,000 with the additional condition of reporting to the police station every month before lawyer S. Muthuveeran, who represented both accused, applied for a lower bail.
The court allowed each accused bail of RM3,000 with one surety along with additional conditions
The re-mention date for both cases is set for Sept 30.
