TAWAU, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- A new Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) outpost on Pulau Sebatik will be built following further assessment of key factors, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said today.
He noted current border security in the area remains under control, with continued cooperation among security agencies.
"We're working closely with the National Security Council, with monitoring by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), on the development of the new post," he said in a statement after a working visit to the island.
Adly said the visit provided clearer insights into the proposed location and requirements for the facility, adding that defence capabilities in Pulau Sebatik and across Sabah are being strengthened continuously to safeguard national security.
On a separate note, he said the Defence Ministry, through the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV), is ready to assist the Education Ministry (MOE) in meeting staffing needs, such as dormitory wardens.
"Our veterans are highly trained and capable. We already collaborate with MOE through civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) programmes and other education initiatives," he said.
During the visit, Adly also met seven ATM veterans in Kampung Sungai Tongkang under the MADANI ATM Veteran Outreach Programme (PVM), which supports and recognises the contributions of former service members.
