KOTA BHARU, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a senior citizen who went missing in the waters off Tumpat since Sunday has been expanded to cover an area of 412.15 square nautical miles in Kelantan waters.
Kelantan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Maritime Captain Erwan Shah Soahdi said the operation, which has entered its third day, was carried out using MMEA maritime and air assets, in collaboration with various security agencies including the Marine Police Force, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force, as well as with the assistance of the Royal Thai Marine Police and local fishermen.
"The victim, Ahmad Hussin, 71, is believed to have gone out to sea alone in a private boat to fish after departing from Kampung Tanjung Kuala, Tumpat at approximately 7.30 am, but has not returned home.
“The MMEA takes a serious view of this incident, and search efforts will continue to be intensified by expanding the operational area from time to time," he said in a statement today.
In this regard, the public, especially the fishing community who have information related to the incident or who find any clues, are requested to immediately contact the 24-hour emergency line 999 or contact the nearest MMEA Operations Centre for further action.
