KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- The dog that attacked a six-year-old boy, causing facial injuries in Cheras on Wednesday, was a stray dog.

Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the matter was confirmed by the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), and a notification letter for the dog was also issued to the Veterinary Department.

“MPKj authorities confirmed that the dog had no owner and was a stray dog. The victim was previously treated at the Kajang Hospital, but is now receiving treatment at the Children’s Ward of the Putrajaya Hospital,” he said in a statement here today.

On Wednesday, a video went viral on social media showing a child being attacked by a dog while the boy was playing with his bicycle near home in Batu 9 in Cheras, Selangor.

In a separate case, Naazron said police arrested a local man, aged 48, last night in a residential area in Semenyih after the suspect, armed with a knife, climbed onto the roof of a house.

“Police, who received information about this matter at 8,50 pm, went to the scene and attempted, with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department, to persuade the man. After almost four hours of persuasion, the suspect, who was only clad in shorts, was successfully apprehended along with the knife," he said.

He also said the suspect is believed to be suffering from mental health issues and has been referred to the Kajang Hospital for further action, and that the suspect has 26 previous criminal records, including for drug abuse.

“The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code and Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958. Individuals with information regarding the incident can contact the nearest police station or contact the investigating officer, Insp. Mohamad Khairie Ridhwan Azmi at 011-36307974," he added.
