KOTA KINABALU, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- A worker was killed after he was buried about 3 metres deep in a cave-in while carrying out excavation and pipe-laying work in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) here.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre stated that the 22-year-old man was confirmed dead by medical personnel at the scene.
“JBPM received an emergency call about the landslide at 1.45 pm and proceeded to the location 14 kilometres away,” he said in a statement today.
The fire-fighters retrieved the victim by digging up the ground at the scene and stretchered him out before handing him over to police for further action.
A total of 12 personnel from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) along with machinery, police and Ministry of Health officials were also at the scene before the operation ended at 2.50 pm.
