Sabah Police Seize Drugs Worth RM1 Mln, Married Couple Among Four Arrested

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- A married couple were among four individuals arrested with 20.7 kilograms (kg) of ketamine, valued at over RM1 million, during a raid on a courier service premises in Kepayan here last Thursday (Sept 4).

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said that during the 12:15 pm raid, his team also seized five luxury vehicles, computers, and other items worth RM3.18 million, bringing the total seizure value to RM4.21 million.

"Based on the inspection, we found two sacks containing 20 parcels filled with ketamine, leading to the arrest of a man, who is the main suspect.

"Information obtained from the main suspect led to the detention of three other individuals, including a woman, on September 5. All suspects are aged between 41 and 56, and the main suspect tested positive for drugs," he told a press conference at the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters here today.

He added that this seizure marks a significant success within a week, following a previous bust of over 40 kg of syabu.

Jauteh mentioned that the police do not rule out the possibility of a connection between this drug syndicate and arrests made on August 28, given the modus operandi of using courier services to transport drugs from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah.

He added that the ketamine was concealed with other items such as instant noodles and disposable diapers and sent via courier services while the suspects are believed to be involved in a drug trafficking network, transporting the illicit substances from the peninsula to Sabah.

The three men and one woman have been remanded until September 11, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He noted that the confiscated drugs could have supplied approximately 68,993 addicts for a single use.
