Local Man Arrested For Firearms Possession In Gua Musang

KOTA BHARU, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Police arrested a local man, aged 31, found with a pistol and live bullets without a licence at a ‘rumah kongsi’.

Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the arrest was conducted at about 4 pm by a team from the Gua Musang district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department through an operation codenamed Op Laras at an unnumbered ‘rumah kongsi’ in the KPF Plantation Sdn Bhd area in Gua Musang.

He said further examination revealed a black bag containing two shotguns and one homemade pistol.

Additionally, police also found a red-capped plastic bottle containing 21 live Bore 12 bullets of various types, as well as a wooden-handled sword with a wooden scabbard inside the house.

"The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958," he said in a statement today.

In relation to this, the public is also advised not to store or use firearms and ammunition without permission and to immediately provide information if there are any suspicious activities in their respective areas.

Meanwhile, a foreign man was found dead in tragic circumstances in a Sonchong garden, behind KPF, here yesterday.

Sik said they received a report from the public at 3.30 pm regarding the discovery of the body, which was found near a garden shed.

Initial investigations found stab wounds on the victim's neck and left chest, believed to be caused by a sharp weapon. The body has been taken to the Gua Musang Hospital’s Forensic Unit for a post-mortem," he also said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

According to him, efforts to track down the suspect are underway and the public with any information is asked to come forward and assist the investigation by contacting the Gua Musang police station at 09-9121222 or the nearest police station.
