SEREMBAN, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- The girlfriend of a father whose two children perished in a drowning tragedy at the estuary of the Linggi River, Tanjung Agas Port Dickson, was released on police bail today.

Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the 41-year-old woman was released but will be recalled as a witness.

"The girlfriend of the suspect (father of two children) has been granted bail. She was released on bond. We will call her as a witness during the prosecution," he told reporters at a press conference held at the Seremban District Police Headquarters today.

Meanwhile, the media today reported that the father of the children involved pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of causing the death of his two children at the estuary of the Linggi River, Tanjung Agas, Port Dickson, on Sept 4.

The media previously reported that the 46-year-old suspect and the woman were remanded in connection with the deaths of the two children, aged six and eight respectively.

In the incident on Sept 4, two siblings, a boy and a girl, drowned when they were trapped inside a car that slid into the Tanjung Agas Linggi River but their father survived as he was outside the car when the incident occurred, while the woman who was also inside the vehicle was rescued by members of the public.

In another development, Alzafny said his team arrested one local and 23 foreigners aged between 20 and 40, comprising nine men from Bangladesh, 11 from Myanmar, two from India, and one Vietnamese national, through Ops Bersepadu Hazard e-waste in the Senawang industrial area on Sept 10.

He said 396 units of scheduled waste SW104, namely Aluminum Dross, were seized, along with two lorries, with an estimated seizure value of RM713,000 during a raid related to the smuggling of scheduled waste or electronic waste.

"This premises have been operating since 2018, conducting recycling business and using its factory area as a transit for (e-waste) for the past seven months before being sent to Selangor," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 38 of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

He added that 530 packets of various brands of cigarettes, 365 cans of alcoholic beverages, and 163 bottles of local and various brands of liquor were also seized, with a total seizure value of RM12,268. The amount of seized goods for non-payment of taxes is subject to Section 135 (d) of the Customs Act 1967.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, Alzafny said a married couple, owners of a transport company, were arrested in Seremban to assist in investigations into fraud activities involving tampered Touch N Go cards with invalid top-ups, which has been ongoing for the past year and resulted in losses of over RM59,920.

He said the couple, aged 43 and 33, purchased the cards from a local man who is still at large.

"Investigations revealed that they purchased tampered Touch N Go cards with invalid top-ups for their company's use to gain profits by not paying toll costs for their lorries' journeys.

"The owners would buy the cards for between RM150 to RM200 each, with the value in the card being double the price they bought from the mastermind, who is still being tracked by the police," he said.

He added that other items seized included RM400,000 in cash, 304 Touch N Go cards, three mobile phones, and a closed-circuit camera recorder set.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, and both individuals are currently remanded for four days until Sept 13.
