KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Police arrested seven men, aged between 15 and 50, in connection with the commotion that occurred during the eviction of 37 terraced houses in Kampung Sungai Baru, here, last Thursday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said six of them are being remanded for two to three days starting yesterday, while another, aged 26, has been charged in court.
"He pleaded guilty and has been released after paying a fine of RM1,500. The police will apply for an extension of remand for the other suspects to continue investigations. Some of those arrested have criminal records for housebreaking and other cases," he told a press conference here last night.
Fadil said that so far, three investigation papers have been opened under sections 186, 353 and 324 of the Penal Code.
He stated that the investigation revealed the arrested individuals were not residents of Kampung Sungai Baru, but rather believed to be leaders and members of an organisation.
He said the police were tracking down several more suspects in connection with the case and did not rule out the possibility of more arrests.
"We also ask for public cooperation, especially those with videos related to the incident, to share the video with the police to assist in the investigation," he said.
Meanwhile, Fadil said Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, who suffered a head injury in the incident, was reported to be fine after receiving outpatient treatment.
