KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- A woman was killed and four others were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Jalan Sungai Ikan here late last night.
Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Mohd Noor said 62-year-old Rohani Hashim and three other family members were in a Perodua Aruz driven by her daughter.
He said police were alerted to the accident, which also involved a Naza Citra and a Proton Saga, at 12.05 am.
“Preliminary investigations found that the crash occurred when a Naza Citra, driven by a 29-year-old woman from Jerteh, veered into the opposite lane and collided with a Perodua Aruz coming from Penang, reportedly on a holiday trip.
“The collision caused the Naza Citra to spin before being hit by a Proton Saga driven by a 37-year-old man from Kemaman. The Proton Saga driver had tried to swerve but clipped the side of the Naza Citra,” he said in a statement today.
He said the driver and passengers of the Perodua Aruz were injured and are getting treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital. Meanwhile, the Proton Saga driver, his wife, and three children escaped unharmed.
“The victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Unit of HSNZ for further examination, while the injured Naza Citra driver was also sent to the same hospital for treatment.
“The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
He advised all road users to exercise greater caution, especially with the school holidays now underway.
