SARATOK, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- A local man and three Indonesians have been reported missing after a boat carrying 10 workers capsized while crossing Sungai Krian from Sesang jetty to Pusa jetty here yesterday evening.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO) said in a statement last night that in the 5.30 pm incident, six victims managed to save themselves by swimming to the riverbank, while four others remain unaccounted for.
The four missing are aged between 25 and 50.
The six Indonesians who survived were identified as Sandi Putra, 26; Amirul, 20; Tadin, 50; Diki Sanjaya, 22; Dwi Moko, 39; and Krisna, 37.
The department said it received a distress call regarding the incident at 6.13 pm, before a team of four firefighters from the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location, about 56 kilometres away.
It said upon arriving at 7.10 pm, the operations team gathered information from the survivors and company representatives, adding that a search and rescue (SAR) operation was to be launched this morning.
