KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Strict action will be taken in the event of non-compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), following the death of a nine-year-old pupil who fell into a sewer pit at a school in Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan, this morning.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that her ministry has launched an investigation into the incident, stressing that there will be no compromise when it comes to the safety and well-being of all members of educational institutions.
She added that all school administrators, district education offices and state education departments must take responsibility, to ensure that facilities at educational institutions are safe and well maintained.
“The incident is very tragic, and schools must be the safest place for children,” she said in a Facebook post.
Abdul Fattah Khairol Rizal, nine, was reported to have died after falling into a sewer pit within the school compound this morning.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said that the Nilai district police headquarters received a report on the incident at about 11 am.
