Former Finance Admin Assistant At Immigration HQ Charged With CBT

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- A former financial administrative assistant at the Malaysian Immigration Department pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a criminal breach of trust (CBT), resulting in the government losing RM88,000.

Che Mohd Azmi Mohd Nor, 40, a Grade W19 Cashier at the Immigration Headquarters in Putrajaya, was charged with allegedly cancelling 158 official government receipts for fines and compounds imposed on customers for various offences, causing the Malaysian government to suffer a loss of RM88,000.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Operation, Investigations and Prosecution Division of the Immigration headquarters between June 2019 and August 2019.

The charge, framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 20 years, whipping, and a fine if convicted.

Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin allowed Che Mohd Azmi bail of RM12,000 with one surety and also ordered him not to intimidate witnesses. She set Jan 27 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Aisyah Mohamed Zanyuin appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Syamil Othman represented Che Mohd Azmi.
