SIBU, April 3 (Bernama) -- The eight-day peat firefighting operations in Kampung Penasu, Daro were completed late this afternoon after the three-sector fire was completely put out.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said that the operation was completed at 6 pm after discussions between the Fire Department, Kampung Penasu committee members and the plantation management.
"All parties agreed to end the operation as the three sector fire was put out fully after the eight day operation.
"No fire is spreading as the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s fire breaks in the perimeter zone were enlarged by the plantation management,” he said in a statement tonight.
The operations centre said the plantation management and the villagers will continue to monitor and conduct firefighting actions if the fire restarts.
A total of 24 firefighters were involved in the operation and were assisted by 10 Ladang Daro Jaya Estate plantation workers and six Kampung Penasu villagers.
