KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Army (TDM) will continue to strengthen the deployment of personnel and assets along the nation’s borders to ensure security remains intact.

Army Chief General Datuk Azhan Md Othman said the effort is supported by modern technology, including drones, scrambler motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and optronic equipment.

He said these high-tech assets enhance surveillance capabilities while safeguarding the welfare and safety of front-line personnel.

Amid an increasingly complex global security landscape, he said TDM is undergoing a holistic transformation in line with the Defence White Paper to remain operationally ready at all times.

“This evolution requires a modular, lethal and deployable force. We must be prepared for multi-domain warfare and regional geopolitical uncertainties,” he told a press conference after officiating the 93rd Army Day Parade at Sungai Besi Perdana Camp here today.

Meanwhile, TDM is expected to receive eight helicopters under a 15-year leasing programme starting next year to strengthen the Army Air Wing (PUTD).

Azhan also said the procurement of Self-Propelled Howitzers (SPH) is progressing smoothly and is expected to enter service in stages from next year.

He added that these new assets are crucial to maintaining the army’s highest level of readiness in line with current defence needs.

Earlier, the 93rd Army Day Parade, held in a regimental format, involved 36 officers and 847 other ranks, led by Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Safuan Jaafar.

The parade featured eight regimental colours and eight detachments from various TDM corps and regiments.

The event also included a flypast by PUTD involving four helicopters - two Agusta A109 and two MD530G aircraft.

A static display showcased key TDM assets, including the ASTROS II, AV8 Gempita ATGW, PT-91M Pendekar tank, ADNAN ACV 300, Rapid Ranger vehicle and the 105mm LG1 MK III howitzer.
