IPOH, April 11 (Bernama) -- A total of 117 motorcycles were seized at the Simpang Lawin traffic lights, Jalan Kuala Kangsar–Gerik near Kuala Kangsar, yesterday in Op Samseng Jalanan (Street Thugs Operation).
Kuala Kangsar district police chief ACP Heisham Harun said the operation was carried out starting at 10 pm with the cooperation of the Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department of the Perak police contingent headquarters and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
"As a result of intelligence and operations, the police arrested four motorcyclists under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"In addition, a total of 117 motorcycles were seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement today.
Heisham said a total of 252 summonses were issued by the police while JPJ issued 119 summons notices against all motorcycle riders and car drivers for various traffic offences and motorcycle modifications.
He said a total of 12 motorcyclists had undergone urine tests and two of them were found positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
According to Heisham, both were being investigated under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuala Kangsar district police headquarters.
"The police would like to advise the public to stay away from the street thug culture and "channel information regarding street gang activities to the police for further action," he said.
