KOTA BHARU, April 14 (Bernama) -- A father and son have been arrested for allegedly trafficking drugs using courier services in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said they were arrested when police raided their fruit stall and premises selling vehicle insurance to Thailand in Kampung Banggol Kulim at about 1 pm last Saturday.
Police seized 40 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis, worth about RM120,000, hidden at the rear of the premises.
“The activity is believed to have been carried out under the guise of their businesses.
“Investigations found that the 45-year-old male suspect acted as the coordinator, while his 25-year-old son served as a ‘runner’ delivering drug supplies using courier services,” he said at a press conference after the Kelantan police monthly assembly here today.
Mohd Yusoff said the drug supply was believed to be intended for the domestic market, particularly on the west coast, as well as for overseas distribution.
He added that police also sealed the premises, a Proton X50, a motorcycle, RM184,800 in cash and jewellery, bringing the total value of the seizure, including the drugs, to nearly RM1 million.
Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until this Saturday to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
