PUTRAJAYA, April 17 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Department (JWP) has urged the public to remain vigilant and not to be easily misled by any individual or member of the Federal Territories Residents’ Representative Council (MPPWP) who uses the council’s name or position for dubious purposes.
In a statement today, JWP said MPPWP is not an entity established to carry out commercial or business activities to generate income or profit.
“The primary role of MPPWP is to focus on coordinating public complaints, fostering active community engagement and implementing programmes to enhance residents’ well-being.
“As a strategic partner of the government, MPPWP functions to empower urban communities through inclusive, transparent and high-integrity approaches,” the statement said.
JWP also explained that MPPWP members must not misuse the organisation’s identity, including using business cards bearing the MPPWP logo for business purposes, conducting unauthorised fundraising, or engaging in commercial activities for personal interests beyond their official duties.
JWP said all MPPWP activities are subject to government financial and administrative regulations, including Treasury Instructions, Malaysian Treasury Circulars, as well as the Guidelines on the Establishment and Management of MPPWP.
The department stressed that firm action under existing laws and regulations may be taken against any party or MPPWP member found to have abused their position or the council’s name for personal gain.
It said MPPWP is an official community representation platform established specifically to strengthen the delivery of government services to the people in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
“In this regard, any doubts regarding the involvement of MPPWP members in unofficial activities should be referred directly to the Federal Territories Department for verification,” the statement said.
The media had previously reported that two individuals from MPPWP Wangsa Maju were directed to resign from their positions immediately following a viral video alleging that they had solicited protection money from a business premises.
