GEORGE TOWN, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Penang has detained an enforcement officer on suspicion of soliciting and accepting about RM11,000 in bribes in exchange for protecting foreign workers from legal action.
According to a source, the male suspect, in his 30s, was arrested at about 4 pm today when he turned up to give his statement at the Penang MACC office.
“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is believed to have committed the offence between November 2024 and April 2025.
“He is suspected of receiving bribes on a monthly basis on seven occasions through money transfers into his Touch ‘n Go account,” the source said.
Meanwhile, Penang MACC deputy director of operations Mustafa Kamal Ahmad, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
