IPOH, May 20 (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) seized 72,616 units of various types and colours of marker pens suspected to be counterfeit in two raids in the state capital and Kuala Kangsar yesterday.

Perak KPDN director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the seizure, valued at RM183,990, was made following intelligence and a complaint from a trademark owner’s representative over the online sale of branded goods suspected to be counterfeit.

“Checks at the premises found that all the marker pens were suspected of carrying registered trademarks that had been wrongly used on the products.

“The trademark owner’s representative carried out a preliminary verification and found elements of infringement under the Trademarks Act 2019,” he said in a statement today.

He said all the items and related documents were seized for further investigation under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019.

Kamalludin said Perak KPDN will continue to step up monitoring and enforcement operations to curb the sale of counterfeit goods to protect consumers and trademark owners’ rights.
