KUCHING, May 29 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak chapter of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has mobilised 207 enforcement officers and 101 price monitoring officers across strategic locations statewide to monitor supply levels and ensure compliance with pricing regulations.
Its director, Matthew Dominic Barin, said inspections are being carried out at public markets, farmers’ markets, native markets and shopping centres.
“The inspections are conducted to monitor non-compliance or investigate consumer complaints so that violations by traders can be acted upon under the relevant laws.
“Sarawak KPDN will also intensify the presence of enforcement and price monitoring officers at key consumer locations to create a safe and ethical business and shopping environment,” he said in a statement today.
He noted that from Jan 1 to May 27 this year, enforcement officers had inspected 61,257 premises across the state.
“As a result, 965 cases were recorded involving seizures worth RM12,478,402 and compounds totalling RM228,400,” Mathew said.
Meanwhile, he said KPDN is implementing the Maximum Price Scheme for the Gawai 2026 festive season from May 27 to June 4.
A total of 12 types of goods have been designated as price-controlled items under the scheme in conjunction with the Gawai 2026 celebrations in Sarawak.
