RM57.15 Million In Drugs Seized In Muar, Two Held

JOHOR BAHRU, June 6 (Bernama) -- Police arrested two local individuals and seized various types of drugs worth RM57.15 million believed to have been destined for a neighbouring country during a raid in the Parit Amat Laut area in Muar yesterday.

Marine Police Force (PPM) Region Two commander ACP Noor Azman Jamal said the suspects, a 63-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, were arrested in the operation at 12.30 am by a team from the Region Two Muar Marine Intelligence Unit and the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Muar district police headquarters (IPD).

He said the drugs were seized following intelligence operations that detected several vehicles and a boat under suspicious circumstances in the area.

“Initial surveillance revealed several individuals loading packages suspected to contain drugs onto a boat. The team subsequently moved in and arrested the two suspects, who were believed to be couriers,” he said in a statement.

He said further inspection uncovered 517 plastic packages believed to contain 549 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, 191,268 ecstasy pills and 4,000 cartridges believed to contain liquid drugs, concealed inside the boat and the boot compartments of the vehicles.

Noor Azman said police also seized a fibre boat and two Yamaha Enduro 85-horsepower outboard engines.

He added that investigations are ongoing to determine whether other individuals were involved in the syndicate's activities apart from the two suspects, who are believed to be associates.

According to him, the two suspects have been remanded for seven days beginning yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Sections 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
