JOHOR BAHRU, June 7 (Bernama) -- A husband and wife were killed after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a lorry that had stopped in the emergency lane at Kilometre 0.6 of the Linkedua Highway (northbound) on Friday.
Iskandar Puteri deputy police chief Supt Saifullah Jaya @ Yahaya said the accident occurred at about 9.30 pm and that the lorry had broken down.
Initial investigations found that the motorcycle ridden by the couple, aged 54 and 53, crashed into the rear right side of the lorry, which was stationary in the emergency lane.
“At the time of the incident, the couple were believed to be on their way home to Taman Melawati, Skudai, after returning from Singapore.
“As a result of the collision, both victims suffered head injuries and injuries to their left legs before being pronounced dead at the scene by medics. Their bodies were subsequently taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for post-mortems,” he said in a statement.
Saifullah said the male victim worked as an e-hailing driver in Singapore, while his wife was employed as a restaurant assistant in the republic.
