SHAH ALAM, July 1 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has cracked down on subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) embezzlement activities with a seizure valued at RM56,000 in a raid at a premises in Sungai Pelek, Sepang near here yesterday.

Selangor KPDN director Muhamad Hanif Asa'ari said in the raid, his party had seized 190 units of LPG cylinders of various brands with a capacity of 14 and 50 kilogrammes (kg) with an estimated weight of 2050 kg, in addition to also detaining a local man to assist in further investigations.

He said the raid was carried out under Ops Tiris 4.0 (Bersepadu) at about 2.10 pm and was carried out in collaboration with the police after monitoring was carried out for two weeks.

“The results of the raid and inspection of the location have uncovered ‘decanting’ activities, which is transferring subsidised 14kg liquefied petroleum gas to 50kg commercial gas cylinders in the area.

“Selangor KPDN suspects that the activity at this premises is selling 50kg LPG containing subsidised LPG to the industry at a lower price than the actual market price. A bonded lorry found in this case was also seized,” he said in a statement today.

Muhamad Hanif said the raid also found several equipment such as connecting hoses and several plastic bags filled with ice believed to be used to perform the decanting technique to divert the controlled goods involved.

He said the investigation also revealed that the subsidised LPG supply was obtained from licensed wholesalers around Banting, Tanjung Sepat and Sungai Pelek.

“Based on this initial information, Selangor KPDN will focus on investigating the supply chain that led to this irresponsible activity.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
