JERTIH, May 8 (Bernama) -- In strengthening its commitment to the environmental sustainability agenda and community well-being, Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation Berhad (EPIC Berhad) today organised the EPIC Jom Bersih 2026 programme at the Air Tawar Beach in Besut.
Through the programme, 400 participants successfully collected approximately 1.3 tonnes of garbage and waste, including 375 kilogrammes of plastic bottles washed ashore or left behind at the beach area.
This underscores the urgent need to expand public education and awareness efforts regarding the shared responsibility of maintaining environmental cleanliness.
EPIC Berhad Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ts. Muhtar Suhaili stated that the programme was not merely a "gotong-royong" (communal work) activity; rather, it served as an important platform to unite various parties in playing an active role in preserving the nation’s natural treasures.
"Efforts like this reflect EPIC Berhad's continuous commitment to upholding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, where environmental care, social development, and responsible governance remain among the company's core focuses.
“As a company operating in the energy industry, we believe our responsibility does not end with operational aspects and business performance alone, but also includes ensuring a balance between industrial development, environmental preservation, and community well-being," he said in a statement today.
He added that organising the programme is a manifestation of collective efforts to foster public awareness regarding the importance of environmental preservation, particularly in ensuring coastal areas remain clean, safe, and sustainable for visitors to enjoy.
The programme was organised in collaboration with the Besut Parliamentary and State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Service Centers, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), and the non-governmental organization (NGO) Geng Plastik Ija (GPI).
It involved 400 volunteers consisting of representatives from government agencies, UniSZA students, the local community, and EPIC Berhad employees.
The EPIC Jom Bersih 2026 programme stands as a symbol of unity among various parties in the effort to preserve natural treasures, which are a shared heritage.
The statement also noted that to date, EPIC Berhad, in collaboration with various parties, has successfully collected a total of 2.4 tonnes of waste through several beach cleaning programs across Terengganu.
The company intends to continue empowering the implementation of sustainability and social responsibility initiatives as an ongoing effort to create a lasting positive impact on society and the environment.
