04/06/2026 05:09 PM

KANGAR, June 4 (Bernama) -- Perlis received a RM4 million allocation from the federal government after Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah met Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following his appointment on Dec 28 last year.

Abu Bakar said RM1.5 million of the allocation was used to provide Aidilfitri assistance to those in need, while RM1 million funded a community feast held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebration of the reign of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.

Another RM1 million was channelled to the Perlis Federal Development Office under the Prime Minister's Department's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU JPM) to upgrade Dataran Lok 9 in Kuala Perlis, while RM300,000 from the remaining balance was allocated for a community festival.

"In other words, RM3 million was allocated for programmes implemented by the state government, while RM1 million was given to ICU," he told reporters after the question-and-answer session at the Perlis State Legislative Assembly sitting at Kompleks Seri Putra here today.

Abu Bakar said the state's Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) had also received allocations for infrastructure upgrading works, including flood mitigation projects, following his meetings with Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as well as other Cabinet ministers.

Although governed by the opposition, he said Perlis had been given access to engage with federal government leaders, making it important to maintain good relations for the benefit of the state's development and the welfare of its people.

"State assemblymen also need to play their role in fostering good relations with the federal government," he said.
