MELAKA, Nov 26 -- The Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) has given permission for its residents to conduct small businesses at suitable locations so as to ease their burden and boost the economy of those affected by COVID-19.
MPHTJ president, Datuk Shadan Othman said, however, small traders, including hawkers operating at roadsides or in front of their houses, were required to apply for a temporary licence at the MPHTJ counters at the payment rate of RM50.70 for three months.
He said they were also required to take typhoid vaccination to avoid the risk of foodborne diseases and food poisoning, besides ensuring the cleanliness and safety of their business premises.
“So far, there are over 500 small traders who have applied to do business.
“We are also providing other incentives such as a special rental discount of 50 per cent for traders at food courts, stalls, markets and kiosks for two months in December and January,” he told reporters at the launching of the ‘Eliminating Ah Long Buntings’ campaign at Melaka Mall, here, today.
Meanwhile, Shadan said since January this year, MPHTJ had destroyed over 5,000 illegal money lending buntings around Hang Tuah Jaya and issued 20 compounds to those installing the advertisements illegally.
“MPHTJ also cooperates with the Communications and Multimedia Commission to identify the phone numbers stated in the advertisements to be reported so that the police can take appropriate action,” he said.
