Lawas Bazaar in Limbang declared rabies-infected area

11/06/2021 07:45 PM

KUCHING, June 11 -- The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has today declared the Lawas Bazaar, Lawas in Limbang as a rabies-infected area.

SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, said the move was following two positive rabies cases in the area recently.

“As this area is outside the 10-kilometre radius of the area that had been previously declared as one, thus this area is the 71st rabies-infected area,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Uggah reminded dog owners to get their dogs vaccinated annually at any Division Veterinary Office or private veterinary clinics.

“Failure to do so is punishable under Section 40 of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999,” he said.
