SEREMBAN, Jan 13  -- A two-metre-long female saltwater crocodile weighing about 100 kilogrammes was found dead at Pantai Cermin, Port Dickson, some 31.5 kilometres from here this morning.

Negeri Sembilan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Nurul Ermi Ramli said the department received the information on the discovery of the carcass from the Port Dickson Municipal Council and SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) at 9.10 am.

“Subsequently, a Perhilitan team assisted by the Biodiversity Education Centre (PPBD) in Tanjung Tuan, Melaka were sent to the location.

“The carcass was lifted using the SWM Environment’s tractor and it was taken to the Perhilitan office for post-mortem to identify the cause of death,” she told Bernama here, today.

Nurul Ermi added the reptile was believed to have died between one and two days before it was found.

According to records, two saltwater crocodiles were rescued last year and were then released to their original habitats, she said.
