Sarawak residents want Keluarga Malaysia Sales Programme to be ongoing

KAPIT, Jan 22 -- As the prices of goods offered are much cheaper than market price, Sarawak residents want the Keluarga Malaysia Sales Programme launched by the government since last December, to be continued to help the low-income group.

Housewife Catherine Lau Hui Lan from Kapit town here, said the programme was beneficial especially to those from poor households as the goods are offered at much cheaper prices.

"I am here to shop for food items and school supplies for my children. I find the prices so much cheaper than usual. 

“I hope this programme will go on as it is a great way to help the people,” she said  when met at the sales venue at Dewan Suarah Kapit here today.

The event organised by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry in collaboration with local strategic partner iMart Excel Sdn Bhd, is on from today until tomorrow from 8 am to 5 pm.

Despite having to queue to use the MySejahtera QR Code scanner and wait for their turn, as only a limited number were allowed in at one time, a check by Bernama found the crowd building up and waiting patiently.

Meanwhile, another visitor Elizabeth Jalak when met said, the Keluarga Malaysia Sales Programme should be ongoing statewide.

"It is hoped that the ministry will keep this programme going in Sarawak to cater to poor households as the cost of living has been rising," she said.

Earlier, the media reported that the Keluarga Malaysia Sales Programme which kicked off on Dec 4, offered a variety of basic goods at prices 15 to 20 per cent cheaper than the market price.

The move was part of the government's efforts to ensure consumers get necessities at cheaper prices. and address the issue of rising food prices.

Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi was quoted as saying that the sales promotion will be held in all 222 parliamentary constituencies twice a month.
