SHARJAH (United Arab Emirates), May 11 (Bernama) -- An abundant creativity and capacity-building workshop awaits children at the 13th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) here, which runs from today until May 22.
Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), the festival themed 'Create Creativity' has attracted the participation of regional and international publishing houses specialising in children’s literature.
Held annually under the patronage of Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah Sheikh Dr Sultan Muhammad Al Qasimi and his wife Sheikha Jawaher Mohammed Al Qasimi, SCRF is the largest children’s reading event in the region.
The festival features many educational and entertainment activities as well as intellectual and cultural seminars.
This year, the festival offers more than 1,900 activities, including 1,140 child activities, 120 cultural activities and 130 artistic performances and theatre productions.
It is home to 750 crafts, technology and self-development workshops that will unleash their creativity, dexterity and imagination as well as provide important life skills.
Among the leading personalities at the festival are Kyle Balda, American animator and film director who co-directs children's movies like Minions, British author-illustrator Curtis Jobling and No 1 New York Times bestselling author-illustrator of children's books from the United States, Vashti Harrison.
Other than that, the technology workshops will take children on a journey to the world of robots programming and 3D printing through amazing interactive activities.
The young adults and parents will enjoy it as they participate in sports and entertainment activities such as a fun HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout and learn to throw a few jabs in a boxing activity.
More interestingly, eight Arab and international chefs of global renown will be showcasing their delicious recipes alongside celebrity chef, host and Malaysian media personality Anis Nabilah, the first Malaysian chef to appear in the ‘My Taste of Hong Kong’ (TLC Asia) and ‘Eating Wild’ (Asian Food Channel) dining travelogues.
Earlier today, Sheikh Sultan officiated at the festival at the Expo Centre Sharjah. It is open from 9 am to 8 pm on weekdays, 9 am to 9 pm on weekends, and 4 pm to 9 pm on Friday.
