Sabah ReDI will build momentum to nation's digitalisation agenda - Nanta

26/05/2022 09:16 PM

SANDAKAN, May 26 (Bernama) -- The implementation of the Retail Sector Digitalisation Initiative Programme (ReDI) at the Sabah state level will build the momentum to the nation’s digitalisation agenda.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the initiative would benefit industry players in the retail sector as they are given the opportunity to share the economic cake provided by the government.

"With the strategic collaboration between the state government, local authorities (PBT) and state KPDNHEP, the ministry is targeting 100 traders from each PBT to participate in the ReDI programme by end 2025.

"If this is achieved, the ministry is confident that it will meet its target of 15,000-trader participation in offering consumers options," he said when launching the programme at Sejati Walk here today.

Nanta also launched the Malaysia Sales Programme (PJM) themed ‘Rancak Pesta Kaamatan" where Sejati Walk has been selected as the first mall to go cashless in Sabah.

He said the programme was successfully implemented in Putrajaya, Hulu Terengganu, Kapit in Sarawak, Pangkor Island and Labuan involving 3,512 traders adding that traders in Sandakan were increasingly going digital.

Nanta added that as a show of support towards the PeDI prgramme and PJM, KPDNHEP has  agreed to channel an allocation of RM38,500 as an incentive to encourage traders and consumers to use the cashless payment method in Sandakan.
