30 HIGH-POWERED MOTORCYCLES ENLIVEN TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION IN PERLIS
KANGAR -- For the first time, Perlis’ Parents, Community and Private Sector’s Involvement (PIBKS) organised a convoy of 30 high-powered motorcycles to enliven Teachers Day celebration in five schools in the state.
The five schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampong Sanglang, SK Felda Chuping, SK Putra, SK Simpang Ampat dan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Syed Saffi.
State PIBKS chairman, Dr Abdul Jalil Ramli said 30 motorcycle riders, comprising several former teachers from around the state participated in the convoy with their first stopover at SK Kampong Sanglang.
“PIBKS wants teachers to feel appreciated for their services in getting students equipped with knowledge and skills to excel in the future,” he told Bernama here today.

GOF SEIZES CONTRABAND CIGARETTES WORTH RM1.07 MLN IN MARANG
KUALA TERENGGANU -- The General Operations Force (GOF) detained a man and seized various types of contraband cigarettes worth over RM1.071 million in a raid on a house at Kampung Wakaf Tapai in Marang yesterday.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander SAC Hasan Basri Ahmad Safar said during the 3 pm raid, the team arrested a 27-year-old local man while he was unloading several large boxes from the boot and back seat of a car in the house compound.
Further checks found that the 7,146 cartons of cigarettes were worth RM114,336, with the unpaid taxes estimated at RM957,564.
“The suspect has no previous criminal records, and the case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
“The police also seized a car and mobile phone, and the total seizure was about RM1.1 million,” he said in a statement today.

ENDOMETRIOSIS TELEHEALTH WEBSITE TO BE LAUNCHED THIS JUNE
KUALA LUMPUR-- A telehealth website dedicated to endometriosis will be launched this June to offer free counseling to women on this medical condition for a three-month period.
The website is a collaboration between healthcare company Bayer Co (M) Sdn Bhd (Bayer) and the Malaysian Endometriosis Association (MyEndosis) and the online medical consultation platform DoctorOnCall
Bayer in a statement informed that the website not only provides education related to the disease but also allows women access to specialist advice and consultation from obstetricians and gynecologists on the DoctorOnCall platform.

BIG BAD WOLF BOOK SALE IN NEGERI SEMBILAN FROM JUNE 2
KUALA LUMPUR -- The country's biggest book sales festival, Big Bad Wolf Books, returns this year with 'The Big Bad Box Sale - Midnight Madness' and will be held in Negeri Sembilan for 11 days starting June 2.
Big Bad Wolf Books in a statement today informed that the event to be held at Lotus’s Seremban 2 supermarket in Taman Bukit Kepayang will be a 14-hour daily affair and various activities have been lined up for book lovers and visitors.

SIRIM STS, OUM SIGN MOU TO DEVELOP PROFESSIONAL TRAINING MODEL
KUALA LUMPUR -- SIRIM STS Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of SIRIM Berhad signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Open University Malaysia (OUM) recently to establish a strategic partnership in the field of professional training.
SIRIM in a statement said through the MoU, both parties will develop training modules for certified professional programmes, collaborate in selected research areas, promote expertise exchange and staff development.
“SIRIM STS will also work with OUM to implement corporate social responsibility activities as well as carry out synergistic relationships in providing higher education opportunities and workforce training.
"In addition, SIRIM STS will introduce new courses, in addition to the current products between OUM and SIRIM STS, namely certified programmes on facilities management, lean management and halal chain management," read the statement.
