28/05/2022 06:47 PM

TANJONG KARANG, May 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) will propose to the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) to upgrade school cooperatives into  Coopmarts to enable goods there to be sold cheaper to the public.

Its Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said as the first step, the ministry would hold discussions with the MOE on rules and location suitability.

“We will discuss with the ministry (MOE) and also the District Education Office (PPD) the rules for outsiders to enter school compounds.

"There are rules in schools as we know, therefore, we will also discuss safety as well as the appropriate location of the shop so that members of the public do not have to enter the school grounds," he said after officiating the annual general meeting of the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) of SMK Seri Desa here today.

Noh said basic goods in the upgraded school cooperatives would be supplied by the Malaysian National Cooperative Force (ANGKASA) through the 100 Basic Goods Supply Programme (BA100).

"We encourage schools to have Coopmarts because when the cooperative gets Coopmart status, it will be given a subsidy where goods will be sold at a cheaper price," he added.
