SENAI, May 28 (Bernama) -- Humanitarian Care Malaysia Bhd (MyCARE) is aiming to raise RM4 million for its Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan Humanitarian Aid Campaign, which is expected to begin next month.
Johor MyCARE trustee Dr Mohd Zin Kandar said the campaign, which would take place over two and a half years, would focus on educational development efforts for refugee children in the three countries.
He said a total of RM1.5 million each would be used for school construction and humanitarian aid in Syria and Yemen, while the rest would be used for education and humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.
“We will focus on education in these three countries, and we know that education is a sustainable approach, as they will be able to rise again to develop their country through education.
“Previously, there have been many humanitarian campaigns for food packs and other aid but very little in terms of education,” he told reporters after the pre-launch of the MyCARE-Econsave Humanitarian Campaign for Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan here today.
Econsave General Manager Mas Imran Adam and MyCARE Johor Chairman Rozi Abdul Ghani were also present at the event.
According to Mohd Zin, there are more than seven million Syrian refugees housed in refugee camps on the borders of Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon and over six million refugees in Syria.
Following the pre-launch, a humanitarian mission to Syria is expected to be held next month to pioneer the construction of the first MyCARE-Econsave school through the campaign, he added.
To date, more than RM8.5 million has been channelled by Econsave through MyCARE to assist various projects in and outside the country in the form of welfare, humanitarian, education, safety and medical assistance.
