Melaka athletes get RM81,000 in incentives for winning Hanoi SEA Games medals

MELAKA, June 2 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government today presented a total of RM81,000 in incentives to eight Melaka-born athletes who won medals at the recently-concluded 31st SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said the incentives, paid out under the Melaka State Incentive Scheme, saw gold medallists being awarded RM10,000 each, silver medallists RM8,000 each and bronze medallists RM6,000 each.

“A total of 21 Melaka-born athletes represented Malaysia at the Hanoi SEA Games from May 12-23 and eight of them returned home with medals (five golds, three silvers and two bronzes),” he told reporters after the incentive presentation ceremony here today.

Earlier, Sulaiman presented incentives totalling RM23,000 to national archer Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki for winning two gold medals in the men’s individual and mixed team compound events as well as a silver in men’s team.

The others who received incentives worth RM10,000 for winning gold medals were golfer Nateeshvar Anatha Ganesh (men’s team); shooter Johnathan Wong Guanjie (men’s 10-metre air pistol individual); and wushu exponent Tan Zhi Yan (men’s taijiquan).

Shuttlers Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun took home RM8,000 each for winning the silver medal in the men’s team event.

The bronze medallists who received incentives worth RM6,000 each were archer Iman Aisyah Norazman (women’s team compound); and wushu exponent Sydney Chin Sy Xuan (women’s taijiquan).
