KUCHING, June 14 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has allocated RM1.5 million in Early Education Assistance for 1,500 students from selected higher learning institutions (IPT) nationwide.
YBR chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said 17 universities were selected this year to receive the assistance, compared to 13 in 2020.
“Yayasan Bank Rakyat introduced the programme to ease the burden of students from needy families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in preparing for admission to the respective universities,” he told reporters after handing out the assistance at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Sarawak branch, here today.
At the event, 80 students from UiTM Sarawak received the assistance.
Meanwhile, Megat Zulkarnain said YBR had also allocated RM176 million for the Variable Education Loan (PPBU) since 2008 until now.
This year’s application for the PPBU will be opened twice, in February and July, following the large number of applications received.
