PPIM develops 'YAKIN' app to help identify misleading services

PETALING JAYA, June 16 (Bernama) -- ‘YAKIN’, a Muslim lifestyle application developed by the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) is seen able to help users identify services that are not only misleading but are also fraudulent.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the application which was jointly developed with Crescent Digital Sdn Bhd will assist consumers to be more vigilant before conducting any transaction to avoid being a victim of a scam.

“We are all aware that PPIM’s role is to champion consumers’ rights and the YAKIN application fits nicely with PPIM’s establishment, especially in the digital world to educate the public to be more sophisticated and technology literate.

“Consumers can access a variety of services offered by PPIM like complaints about consumer affairs, donations and all sorts of the latest information from PPIM easily using just their smartphones,” he said at the launching ceremony of the YAKIN mobile application here today.

He said the application also provides other services like digital prayer beads, prayer times, kiblat direction and a zakat calculator.

Besides that, Dr Adham believes that the YAKIN application has the potential to aid and support traders, especially Muslims,  to promote their products.

He said the YAKIN application is seen as able to empower consumers and especially  Muslim businessmen to drive local high-value innovation which is capable of contributing to the country’s digital economy.

Dr Adham hoped that in the future PPIM can turn the YAKIN application into an e-commerce platform selling fair-priced products for the benefit of consumers.

“Presently, halal products and services are gaining global attention not only due to the increase of the Muslim population in the world but also because halal products are known as a benchmark for quality and also a good security guarantee.

“Also, the halal industry is not only limited to the food sector but other innovative sectors like agriculture, finance, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, industry, tourism and insurance,” he added.
