Technical entrepreneurship holds enormous potential for women

16/06/2022 10:47 PM

MELAKA, June 16 (Bernama) -- Women especially technical graduates who are capable of mastering  technical entrepreneurship should explore market opportunities in the field.

Recipient of the Women’s Digital Marketing Entrepreneurship icon award, Ume Nur Ashikien M. Azhar, 29, said this included using as best as possible all existing mass media platforms such as Tik Tok, Facebook and Instagram.

“There are numerous platforms and women should not limit their perspective to become a technical entrepreneur.

“You must be smart to shape the mass media platforms to become an entrepreneur who applies the vast technical knowledge to generate income,” she said

She was met by reporters at the closing of the 2022 Women Technical Entrepreneurship Convention (WTC) at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia (UTeM) here today.

The two-day convention which began yesterday, was attended by 1,000 women entrepreneurs from various fields, and it was launched by Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad. It was also attended by State Women Affairs Executive Councillor, Datuk Kalsom Nordin and UTeM vice chancellor, Prof Dr Massila Kamalrudin.

Ume Nur Ashikien, who is a Tik Tok icon with almost 500,000 followers, said technical and entrepreneurship knowledge gleaned at UTeM succeeded in shaping her pickled salted fish business which she seriously ventured into seven months ago.

“I used what I learned as a graduate of Manufacturing Engineering (Robotics) and Automaton to add value to my product and it is not something impossible to do,” she said.

For the winner of the drone designing competition, Nor Zahirah Zulkifly, 24, nothing is impossible for women to compete in the technical area including becoming an entrepreneur on drones.

“Actually, there are many openings which can be explored in the drone technology but first and foremost one must not be embarrassed and afraid. We can just learn and turn it into a business,” she said.

Meanwhile, Noraini, in her speech, said the 2022 Women Technical Entrepreneurship Convention (WTC), which was organised for the first time in Malaysia, was seen as being in line with the aspiration of the government in the 12th Malaysia Plan to empower the Technical, Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) sector.
