470 KRTs NATIONWIDE HAVE CABINS 

 

KUALA LUMPUR --  A total of 470 Rukun Tetangga Communities (KRT) throughout the country have cabins for operational purposes, said National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.

She added that priority to provide the cabin was given to active KRTs and those that had been established for more than 10 years.

However, it was still subject to the amount of allocation received by the Ministry of National Unity.

Overall, there are 1,246 KRTs nationwide operating from premises including rukun tetangga centres and unity complexes.

MISAPPROPRIATION OF SUBSIDISED COOKING OIL: KPDNHEP RECORDS RM2.2 MLN WORTH OF SEIZURES 

 

KUALA LUMPUR --The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) recorded 100 cases of abuse in the supply of subsidised cooking oil, with a total seizure worth RM2.2 million from July 1 to 24 this year.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid said a total of 12,417 premises were inspected through various operations, including Ops ATM (for chicken, eggs, and cooking oil) and Ops Anti Sorok, while 117 complaints received during the same period.

“For chicken and eggs, 157 cases detected from inspections on 10,302 premises and seizures amounting to RM22,677 were recorded,” he said in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim (GPS-Batang Lupar) on the measures taken to address leakages in basic food supply in the market and the rising prices of goods.

FORMER NATIONAL ATHLETES REGISTERED WITH YAKEB ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE

 

 KUALA LUMPUR -- Former national athletes, including paralympians registered with the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (Yakeb), are entitled to an exemption from medical service charges at government hospitals through a special medical scheme for athletes and former athletes.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said other facilities that are also provided annually, include financing aid for outpatient treatment, health support equipment, monthly financial assistance as well as assistance for higher education and those impacted by a natural disaster.

“The children of former athletes also have a special YAKEB quota for admission to boarding schools and are eligible to receive death benefits.

“The long-term assistance is provided to ensure the former athletes’s welfare is taken care of,” he said when replying to a question from June Leow Hsid Hui (PH-Hulu Selangor) on assistance provided for former athletes.

MMEA DETAINS 1,600 FOREIGN FISHING BOATS SINCE 2006  

 

KUALA LUMPUR --  The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained 1,600 foreign fishing boats since 2006, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Home Affairs Minister II Datuk Jonathan Yasin said of the total, 1,057 or 66 per cent of the boats were from Vietnam.

“MMEA is always committed to monitoring the identified hotspot areas and will continue to enforce the existing laws if the (fishing boats from) the countries involved continue their activities in the national waters (Exclusive Economic Zones),” he said.

He said this in reply to a question from Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz (PAS-Bachok) on the ministry’s plan to address the encroachment of foreign fishing vessels in the country’s waters.
