RISDA to offer one-off RM15,000 grants to youth smallholders for economic activities

JEMPOL, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) will offer a one-off grant of RM15,000 via the Additional Economic Activity (AET) Programme for Youth to encourage the involvement of young smallholders in the field of entrepreneurship.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Sharif said of the amount, RM10,000 would be allocated for the purchase of machinery, equipment, rental of premises and the purchase of raw materials, while RM5,000 would be for training, guidance and monitoring.

He said to implement the programme, a total of 100 youth from Negeri Sembilan had been selected for the pilot project commencing this year.

"This initiative was created to stimulate economic growth by encouraging their involvement in the field of entrepreneurship, increasing product production, improving the quality and value of products to meet market demand.

"RISDA is targeting the smallholders' children, between the ages of 18 and 40, who have a deep interest in business to be involved in this programme," he told reporters after speaking at the Negeri Sembilan-level RISDA Open Day 2022 programme here today.

Those interested need to be registered with RISDA through involvement in Kelab Generasi Muda RISDA (KGMR), participate in the Program Tenaga Kerja Pekebun Kecil (TKPK), have a Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) certificate from a public institute of higher education, private institute of higher education or University College of Agroscience Malaysia (UCAM), and do not have a permanent job and have never received RISDA's AET assistance.

In the meantime, Mohd Salim said RISDA is also providing the Program Tuisyen Rakyat to improve the academic quality and living standards of the young generation of smallholders, focusing on Form Five students who are sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam in the current year.

“A total of 200 schools can take advantage of this programme with an allocation of RM2.5 million," he added.
