GUA MUSANG, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 200 chickens offered at a discounted price during the Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sales programme (PJMKM) held in Kampung Jerek in the Nenggiri state constituency were sold out within 30 minutes.

SMS Maju Solutions proprietor Sabariah Mohamed Sayuti, 41, said besides chicken, 500 trays of Grade D eggs were also sold out in less than three hours of the programme being held.

“All basic need items like rice, cooking oil and vegetables were in high demand, but the items most sought after were the chickens and eggs.

“Chicken was sold at RM7.50 a kilogramme compared with the normal price of RM9.40, and we had to limit it to only two birds per customer,” she told reporters here today.

A customer, Norzaini Mamat, 34, said besides food supplies and kitchen essentials, the programme had helped her to get the necessary supplies for her small child, especially disposable diapers, which were sold with maximum discounts.

“I would normally come here every three days to stock up my supply at home but today's prices really felt very different compared to normal days," she said, adding that she took the opportunity to buy two fresh chickens.

Nenggeri assemblyman Ab Aziz Yusoff said the ‘Jihad Against Inflation’ initiative by the Government had indirectly helped reduce the people’s burden.

“Progammes like this have a big impact on the rural folk and can indirectly help reduce their cost of living," he said.

Meanwhile, the PJMKM held for the Pasir Pekan state constituency at Wisma I'Baadurraham Taybah Mart was also well received by the local residents.

Nor Nasrin Mat, 49, said the programme was very helpful for people like her with an irregular monthly income.

"With prices of food now going up, if you take RM100 to the market you can only buy a few necessities.

"We can save almost RM30 or RM40 with sales like this compared to normal expenses. The savings we make can then be used for other things,” she added.
