KOTA BHARU, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- The fourth edition of Kembara RIUH Keluarga Malaysia (KRKM) 'RIUH SOKMO! Bersama Celcom’, which will be for three days at the Ketereh District Council Mini Stadium, here, opens its curtain at 10 am today.
Communications and Multimedia Minister (MenKOMM) Tan Sri Annuar Musa is scheduled to officially open the event, themed “Santai-Santai Hari Malaysia”, tomorrow (Sept 17).
The programme, organised by MyCreative, an agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM), serves as a platform to empower activists, entrepreneurs as well as local creative industry practitioners.
It is organised as one of the government's efforts to open up opportunities for creative industry activists to be more advanced and develop their respective abilities.
Throughout the three-day programme, visitors will get to see the uniqueness and richness of the country’s creative industry, especially from Kelantan, which is known as the state of Cik Siti Wan Kembang, a legendary queen.
They include wayang kulit, dikir barat, wau bulan and perahu kolek, which have great potential to be highlighted at the international level.
There will also be more than 40 stalls showcasing various activities, programmes and exhibitions by agencies under K-KOMM, as well as workshops on the making of kites, batik, puppets for shadow play (wayang kulit), leather goods and ceramic painting.
KRKM which began early this year was originally concentrated in the Klang Valley, but has been extended to Johor, Sabah, and Melaka in efforts to help artists who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It has proven successful in bringing together creative entrepreneurs and local art activists from 10 fields of the creative industry including music, performing arts, creative content, literature, design arts, and cultural and traditional arts implemented through strategic collaborations.
KRKM programme is expected to create over 7,000 job opportunities and support more than 5,000 activists and local creative industry entrepreneurs in 14 locations nationwide as planned.
It is also in line with the government's efforts to increase the creative industry’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to 20 per cent, at an estimated RM31 billion by 2025.
