KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Chairmen of Keluarga Malaysia Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) who have been appointed need to go to the ground and organise programmes suitable to their respective areas to empower the centre.
The political secretary to the Communications and Multimedia Minister, Datuk Dr Budiman Mohd Zohdi said the proactive move should be taken so that more digital entrepreneurs are produced with the assistance and training at PEDi.
"PEDi is the best platform as it has the physical facilities, internet access and the manpower to assist the people at the grassroots... connectivity is a basic requirement.
"We need to continue assisting the people so that there is a higher level of information technology literacy,” he said when met after representing the Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa at the the presentation of appointment letter for PEDi chairmen and the Telecommunication Briefing for Consumers at a hotel here this evening.
According to him, the achievement of all PEDi centres so far has been very encouraging and in Terengganu alone, there are 66 such centres including an additional six new centres which are under construction.
"Our target is one PEDi to produce 15 entrepreneurs in various categories, with most of them benefiting from online sales with the digital approach.
"In Besut for example. we have a young entrepreneur who generated an income of up to RM30,000 a month with the assistance and training at PEDi and it is hoped it would be an inspiration to other youth to benefit from PEDi,” said Budiman.
He said that in line with the rapid development of information technology, all entrepreneurs are advised to get involved in the economic field creatively and no longer do business in the conventional way so that they do not fall behind.
At the event, in addition to the presentation of the certificate, Terengganu Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) director, Zahari Ismail also held a telecommunication briefing session for the people.
