KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has channelled RM400,000 in aid to be distributed to 400 students at four institutions of higher learning (IPT) in the East Coast.
Its general manager Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani said the donations covered students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP).
He said the Early Learning Assistance (BAP) initiative is to help less able students from rural or inland areas as well as the urban poor prepare for classes.
"Each student was given RM1,000 to prepare for the new study session. The mock check presentation was held in a ceremony where the Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah consented to accept the donation to be distributed to the students," he said in a statement today.
According to Syaiful Rizal, the Bank Rakyat Foundation has channelled donations of RM2.37 million to 3,012 students at 18 IPTs throughout the country this year, regardless of race and religion.
Throughout its establishment in 2017 until Jan 1 this year, YBR has helped nearly 6,000 students with a total sponsorship of more than RM165 million.
