BATU PAHAT, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The introduction of life-long learning (PSH) programmes and courses in community colleges has succeeded in building a more dynamic community in improving knowledge, skills and socio-economic status.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the effectiveness of the PSH programmes in polishing talent and the potential of human capital can be seen through the government's commitment to the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

He said through the 12MP, four community colleges namely in Parit Sulong, Bandar Tenggara, Pagoh, and Simpang Renggam have been approved for construction.

“The government's efforts have proved to be effective as up to Sept 30, more than 3.4 million applications were received for PSH programmes implemented in community colleges nationwide.

“This is a very encouraging achievement,” she said at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Parit Sulong Community College (KKPS) here today.

According to Noraini, the KKPS to be built on a 9.822-acre (3.975 hectares) piece of land in Jalan Simpang Lima, Parit Sulong, has been operating since January 2021 from its satellite campus at Taman Industri D’Cabin Medan Niaga Seri Sulong in Parit Sulong.

She said that once completed, KKPS will be equipped with lecture hall facilities that can accommodate up to 240 students at a time, in addition to other facilities.

“KKPS offers two full-time courses namely a Certificate in Logistics Services and Business Operations Certificate.

“Among the PSH programmes offered are courses in computer and information technology; catering services; sewing and apparel; business and entrepreneurship; as well as upskilling logistics services.

“Each year, about 800 participants comprising youth, senior citizens, single mothers, the disabled as well as the B40 group are targeted to attend these PSH courses,” she added.
