JER 2.0 Sales Programme: Visitors throng stalls selling chicken, eggs at RM10

04/02/2023 06:46 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- People have thronged the stalls selling chickens and eggs at the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) 2.0 sales programme at Taman Nirwana in Ampang for not wanting to miss the chance to purchase the items at lower prices.

Despite being limited to one chicken and a tray of eggs per person, a Bernama check found that consumers were undeterred by a long queue in order to buy the items which are sold at RM10 each.

Apart from standard chicken and grade B eggs, other items that are also sold at cheaper prices at the programme are imported frozen beef (RM10 each), ikan kembung or the Indian mackerel (RM6 per pack), five-kilogramme (kg) bottled cooking oil (RM25) and five kg of rice at RM10.

Jabariah Hussin, 66, said she was grateful that such a programme was held at a time when people are grappling with the rising cost of living.

“If we go to any supermarket, these six items can cost us more than RM100 and that is why I will make sure to come to events like this because I can save a lot,” she said when met by reporters today.

Jackson Liu, 27, hoped the implementation of the programme would be extended to help reduce the burden of the people’s cost of living.

Meanwhile, State Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agriculture Modernisation, and Agro-Based Industry Committee chairman Izham Hashim said this year, the state government has allocated RM20 million for the JER 2.0 sales programme which will be held at 1,200 locations compared with 711 locations last year.

“The programme has received an overwhelming response with about two million residents have benefitted from it,” he said.

The JER initiative which started in September last year and held in nine districts offers six basic food items that are 30 per cent cheaper than the market price.
