LABUAN, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Parents of children with special needs or disabilities are encouraged to set aside their feelings of denial or shyness and instead step forward to seek assistance for the betterment of their children.

These children, with unique needs and abilities, deserve access to proper training to enhance their independence and future.

Labuan Social Welfare Department director Ansharey Matarsad said 2,047 individuals with disabilities have been registered with the department.

He said the department was collaborating with the Training and Rehabilitation Complex for the Disabled in Kimanis, Papar to offer technical training to these category of people.

"We will have open interviews from Sept 22-24 in SMK Labuan and Dewan LDA Sungai Bedaun, and we invite parents and guardians of children with disabilities to attend the interview for assessment.

"Parents are strongly encouraged to seize this opportunity to enroll their children in these invaluable training sessions, as there are no associated fees," he told Bernama today.

The Kimanis training centre's principle DK Suhaili Pg Suhaimi said the technical training programmes being offered cover four diverse areas of expertise, each spanning from nine to 24 months.

"These programmes include bakery, sewing, computer and rattan furniture.

"The training center is fully equipped with safety standard facilities and the center includes a 24-hour medical clinic to address any healthcare needs that may arise during the training period...this ensures the safety and well-being of all participants," she said.

Dk Suhaila said the semester commences in February each year, offering a structured learning environment for disabled individuals looking to build a brighter future.
