PUTRAJAYA, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- KPJ Healthcare Bhd is set to expand its 5G-enabled VSI Holomedicine technology solutions to several of its hospitals located nationwide in partnership with apoQlar in the coming years.
Its president and managing director Chin Keat Chyuan said the latest technology in the medical world, which is also supported by Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), Microsoft, TM One and National University Health System (NUHS) Singapore, has completed its piloting phase of the VSI Holomedicine technology at KPJ’s flagship hospital, Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2).
"Being an early adopter in Malaysia, this initiative will position KPJ Healthcare at the forefront of medical mixed reality research, contributing to the creation of the doctors of tomorrow.
"The collaboration explores the use of mixed reality technology with apoQlar’s VSI Holomedicine platform to enhance surgical planning, patient education, and medical training," he told reporters after the launch of the KPJ Healthcare Conference, here today.
Also present were Health Ministry Deputy Secretary-General (Finance) Datuk Seri Norazman Ayob and Johor Corporation president and chief executive Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim.
He said through the 5G-enabled VSI Holomedicine technology, patients and doctors can leverage the Microsoft HoloLens two device and VSI Holomedicine to visualise and interact with patient scans such as CT and MRI, and segmented models in three-dimensional (3D) holographic image which enables a 360-degree view of the images.
He said patients can also engage with their surgical plans, experiencing their treatment journey through the immersive interface of the HoloLens, promoting a deeper understanding and active involvement in their healthcare decisions.
"This 5G-enabled VSI Holomedicine is something very interesting (where) virtual and reality, this blend in the imaging. So whatever we have actually done that x-ray, ultrasound and all, when we get the image, we are going to plug it into 3D.
"Now imagine if I were to do a pancreatic surgery, when I had the image, I put it in, I allowed my clinicians and my patients collectively see what kind of the problem they are facing in 3D.
"The precision in terms of designing, diagnosing and then treatments, this is actually where we want to enhance the quality of our healthcare in the future," he said.
Chin said VSI Holomedicine introduced a world where medical professionals can gain insight into complex anatomical structures, overlay critical patient images, and collaborate with experts worldwide in real-time, all within the comfort of their clinical environments.
"Through these technologies, we can offer patients personalised therapeutic experiences, easing their pain, anxiety and discomfort,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chin said this two-day conference starting today is a platform for all clinicians and experts in the medical sector to gain insights on the latest medical technology as well as gain networking among players in this industry.
“Since 2001, this annual event has continued to attract healthcare professionals and thought leaders from across the globe who share a common mission in this ever-evolving industry.
"We stand at a historic juncture where the future of healthcare is ours to shape. Technology, innovation, and Artificial Intelligence-driven healthcare are our compass, guiding us towards a brighter, more efficient, and more patient-centric future," he said.
Themed, “Healthcare Transformation: Reimagining and Redefining”, the conference centered on the evolution and integration of new technologies in healthcare such as AI, automation, robotics and precision medicine and more than 500 healthcare delegates from around the world attended this conference.
